Herbert and Bernadette - Proposal Story

It was just an escapade to celebrate Bernadette's birthday until Herbert pulled off a very romantic proposal by the white sand beaches of El Nido Palawan. Take a peak on their proposal story as narrated by Herbert:

Day 1 - 2
We travelled to Palawan! It was actually a birthday treat for Bernadette but she didn't know that I planned a big surprise that will change our lives forever.

Day 3
It was her birthday and we stayed at Matinloc Resort. Among all the places that we've been, this is so far the best in terms of service and view. We had so much fun taking photos. At the back of my mind, I was thankful that I picked the best place to give her my surprise.

After taking lots of pictures around the resort, she noticed that the crew were setting up a table in front of the beach. She said that it was sweet without her knowing that the setup was for her. I said yeah it is, and I immediately grabbed her attention and took her to a different spot to continue taking some pictures.

I asked her if we could take a dip in the pool for an hour so that the crew could finish the setup and we could change with our dinner clothes. She agreed! My plan was perfectly working. We finished around 5:00 pm. I told her that the resort's call time for dinner is at 5:30 pm. We went back to our room and I quickly changed my clothes and said to her that I will go out and take some more pictures without her.

I met with the crew to make sure everything is going well for my proposal. Hannah, one of the resort's staff assisted me with everything I need. As I was going back to our room, I saw Bernadette already ready and planning to go to the dining area. I convinced her to go back inside so that I could blindfold her to give her my surprise. 

As I was placing the blindfold, she asked what I was planning. I said it's a surprise, I assisted her as we both went down the stairs. Hannah was taking our video whispering and instructing her team via her walkie talkie.

While walking blindfolded, Bernadette asked why I was shivering? I said I wasn't, even though I was! It was a long time since I felt nervous like this. But I was confident because I already practiced everything that is needed to be said. But as we came closer to the table, I can feel all my bones shivering and I can't nearly speak!

As we stopped she said what is going on, I told her, that "We were planning our lives together...." then a quick flashback happened with all the good and bad experiences we have faced. Then I went blank... I forgot what I was about to say! All the words that came out of my mouth was not what I practiced! 

I went in front of her, kneeled down and requested to take off her blindfold. I showed her the engagement ring and asked her to marry me. It took her quite some time for the moment to sink in. For the second time, I asked "will you marry me?", and she said "Yes!".

The staff around us clapped and gave us some cheers. I looked in her teary eyes I knew she was about to cry. But with Bernadette's QA skills and keen eyes, she noticed my flies were open! We both laughed so hard, luckily the staff around us and Hannah recording the video didn't notice it.

Were so grateful and thankful of that day and we will treasure it for the rest of our lives (even though I messed up a bit). Now we are engaged, we are ready to execute our plans and continue our lives together happy and with God at the center.

Day 4
We were prepared to go to our next destination, Dos Palmas.
We talked about our future together while witnessing one of the best sunsets we have ever seen. We are so excited to what lies ahead.
