What makes Moissanite the queen of all gemstones? Here are 6 incredible facts that you need to know about the most beautiful jewel in the world!
Moissanite was first discovered in Arizona in 1893 by Noble Prize winning French scientist Henri Moissan. His first sample of Moissanite (which was named after himself) was found inside of a meteorite crater. Dr. Moissan initially thought he had found a diamond but as he took his sample to the lab, he discovered it was silicon carbide. At that point, Moissanite was born!
The ability of a gemstone to reflect white light is known as its brilliance. How much light a gem reflects is its Refractive Index (RI). Moissanite is unique from diamonds because it reflects more light. You know that enchanting sparkle that make gemstones stand out? Moissanite tops them all! It is also less likely to attract dirt and grime than a diamond and stays more brilliant between cleanings. Very convenient right?
Unlike mined jewels, Moissanite is absolutely conflict free, with guaranteed origin.
This makes it environment friendly! Many consumers are seeking a more socially responsible form of fine jewellery and appreciate the assurance Moissanite provides.
Moissanite is rarer than diamonds! Yep, you heard that right! Rarity is the availability or perceived availability of a jewel. Moissanite is by far the rarest jewel on earth. Naturally occurring quantities of Moissanite are so minute, they are not suitable for use in jewellery. After a century of research, only a few companies in the world are capable of growing Moissanite crystals suitable for use as a precious jewel. Still, the process is so complex, that it is as much an art as a science.
You would think the most brilliant jewel in the world would be the most expensive jewel too. Thankfully, it’s not! Moissanite will last a lifetime and maintain its brilliance, fire and lustre forever. The lifetime of enjoyment you receive when you wear Moissanite is immense compared to the investment you’ve made. Expect it to also increase in value over time. Now that is incredible value!
Moissanite has heat resistance properties superior to many other jewels, offering the distinct advantages for using Moissanite in fine jewellery. First, Moissanite jewels can be cast in place, allowing the jewellery designer to offer innovative, exact-fit designs. Second, Moissanite jewels are less likely to experience heat damage during jewellery repair operations. Finally, Moissanite jewels can survive the extreme temperatures found in typical house fires.
There you have it! Remember these facts when purchasing a gemstone. I believe that Moissanite is now the standard of all jewels. How can it not be? These remarkable facts convinced me that Moissanite is indeed the most beautiful jewel in the world.

Moissanite Engagement and Bridal Set
Moissanite is the rarest gemstone in the world - more rare than Diamonds, Rubies, Emeralds, and all other minerals that are used for fine jewelry. You can find naturally occurring Moissanite on the surface of the earth but in extremely tiny quantities. Because it is so rare, it originally can't be used in jewelry for a lot of people to enjoy.
The gem was originally discovered in a crater created by a meteorite that fell to Earth in 1893 by a scientist named Henri Moissan. It was discovered that Moissanite is composed of Silicon Carbide (Diamond is composed of only Carbon).
So why is it extremely rare? Because when Silicon and Carbon come together in the Earth's atmosphere, these two elements don't really have the opportunity to match up because of exposure to oxygen. In order to create Silicon Carbide, oxygen must not be present. This is why scientists believe that Moissanite was born from the stars because oxygen is not present in space and also as evidenced by its first discovery in a meteorite crater.
Since it is virtually improbable to have naturally occurring Moissanite in the surface of the earth, scientists discovered a way to grow Moissanite in a chemical laboratory. This scientific breakthrough was a pivotal moment and led to us being able to enjoy this one-of-a-kind gemstone. Since all Moissanite used in jewelry are grown in a laboratory and not earth-mined, you can be sure that it is conflict free, ethically sourced, and environment friendly. Not only is it rare, it is also pure and good.
Moissanite is different from a diamond scientifically, but there are many similarities between them. Both stones are extremely hard and appropriate for day-to-day wear. Both appear to be colorless or nearly colorless and have exceptional sparkle and shine. Both are considered genuine stones for use in jewelry.
They part company in several ways, however, including how they are sold and what they cost. Although a Moissanite is created in a lab, it does take several months to grow one, so they are not cheap; they are, however, far less expensive than diamonds of comparable size and quality. Another difference is the superior clarity of Moissanite. Some diamonds have very good clarity while others may be cloudy with lots of flaws and imperfections.
Moissanite has more sparkle with fewer flaws than Diamond!
Moissanite is the most brilliant gemstone in the world. It has more sparkle with fewer flaws! The enchanting sparkle of this stone is sometimes referred to as “Moissanite fire” and is one of the most appreciated features of this jewel. This is its ability to break up light into a spectrum of colors. Moissanite engagement rings have more fire than diamond engagement rings because of this ability. For those looking for maximum brilliance, flash and sparkle, Moissanite is the answer.
Moissanite stones are usually named based on their relative clarity, making it easy to understand what you’re looking at in terms of quality. The top Moissanite brands in the world are Forever ONE and SUPERNOVA.
The Forever ONE Moissanite needs really no introduction. It is by US based company Charles & Colvard. Charles & Colvard is the company that started the Moissanite revolution around the world and Forever ONE is the epitome of the company's 20 years of research and innovation.
Forever ONE is also graded as true colorless in the DEF range but the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) say that they lean towards D-E color giving it the gorgeous and famous ice-white look. These gems also fall in Internally Flawless to Very Very Slightly Included (IF-VVS) clarity range. Forever ONE, have a higher price point compared to SUPERNOVA.
The new-generation SUPERNOVA Moissanite is by Australian based company Moissanite International. They are graded as true colorless (DEF), without the undesired blue colour tint found in other colorless Moissanite. It is also cut perfectly to maximise brilliance. This gives the SUPERNOVA the natural look that is soulful. These gems also have VVS clarity which means even an experienced grader will have a hard time finding any inclusions with a 10x loupe.
These stones are stunning and are coined the best jewel ever. And one more thing about SUPERNOVA, it comes at a lower price point compared to Forever ONE Moissanite of Charles & Colvard.

Long story short: more than 100 years ago, Nobel-Prize Winning Scientist Dr. Henri Moissan stumbled upon a fallen meteorite from the cosmos 50,000 years old, and it was in it that he found our beautiful, iridescent Moissanite. Its impressive qualities as a mineral beguiled Tiffany & Co.’s well-respected gemologist George Kunz, who saw a great potential in it as a gem stone (could not be mined and had to be made in-lab because the found material was scarce in supply) and gave it a name most befitting. Some even call it the gem of the stars. It certainly isn't a matter of settling when you can call a gorgeous gem an heirloom stone.

"Conflict Free" is a term coined because of the blood diamond industry. "Conflict-free" was made to reference the controlled export and import of conflict goods as diamonds were once used for currency. With Moissanite, you can be rest assured it is 100% conflict free.
Moissanite is also a very eco-friendly choice. There unfortunately is no way to reverse the effects of gem mining, no ctrl+z or undo button, but choosing moissanite and sharing about it as an alternative may eventually reduce the need or reliance for mining.

The Moissanite engagement ring is the latest alternative to diamond engagement rings, with a combination of beauty and affordability that can’t be matched. In fact, these lovely, shimmering rings have become the darlings of the millennial set. Many young couples today are choosing to go with moissanite for engagement rings and they’re pleased with these beautiful symbols of love and commitment. There are at least five good reasons why millennials are going the Moissanite route. but first let’s take a look at what this jewel actually is.
While some people label a moissanite as a “fake diamond,” it isn’t. In fact, it is a jewel in its own right. Moissanite in nature are incredibly rare, but those used in jewelry are created in a lab using silicon carbide. They have a different crystal structure than diamonds, but closely resemble diamonds for sparkle, clarity and beauty. There are many similarities and some differences. Both stones are extremely hard and appropriate for day-to-day wear. Both appear to be colorless or nearly colorless and have exceptional sparkle and shine. Both are considered genuine stones for use in jewelry.
They part company in several ways, however, including how they are sold and what they cost. Although a Moissanite is created in a lab, it does take several months to make one, so they are not cheap; they are, however, far less expensive than diamonds of comparable size. Another difference is the superior clarity of moissanite wedding rings and engagement rings. Some diamonds have very good clarity while others may be cloudy with lots of flaws and imperfections.
Moissanite has more sparkle with fewer flaws than Diamond!
More Sparkle with Fewer Flaws! Because Moissanite stones are lab created, there is greater control over the quality of the stone. All Moissanites are either flawless or nearly so, giving millennials the opportunity to more easily find stones with exceptional sparkle and clarity. Buyers don’t have to try and wade through a lot of diamonds, trying to find one with good cut, clarity and color combined with the carat weight they are looking for. Instead, millennials can assume (rightly so) that any Moissanite engagement rings they look at will have excellent color and clarity compared with the majority of similarly sized diamonds.
The unusual sparkle of this stone is sometimes referred to as “Moissanite fire” and is one of the most appreciated features of this jewel. This is its ability to break up light into a spectrum of colors. Moissanite engagement rings have more fire than diamond engagement rings because they break up light into a full spectrum of colors. For those looking for maximum flash and sparkle, Moissanite fire is the answer.

Careful research would show that a diamond engagement ring can do more than just hurt your bank account—it can also potentially be the direct result of pain and suffering in a war-torn community." - Excerpt from www.weddingbee.com
It is always a good idea to do your own research before purchasing something as valuable as an engagement ring. Here are 3 big reasons why the love of your life should wear a conflict-free Moissanite engagement ring.
Wouldn't it be great if this symbol is conflict free, ethical and socially responsible? A diamond that was unethically sourced or a diamond that someone may have had to suffer for may suddenly lose its symbolism of love. The very least you could do is take the extra steps needed to ensure that your engagement ring center stone is not mined by someone who had to endure unfair or unsafe labor practices. You can make sure of this by choosing Moissanite, instead of other gemstones like Diamond.
Moissanite came from a very rare and scarce mineral born from the stars that was originally discovered in 1893 in a meteor crater. It is so rare that it needs to be grown in a lab so that more people can enjoy its brilliance and sparkle in the form of fine jewellery. Our partners, Moissanite International (Australia) and Charles and Colvard (USA) are able to grow Moissanite in a lab to deliver you an artfully crafted, socially responsible and eternally brilliant jewel. As such, it is ethically grown, free of mining and mining conflict and won’t hurt the environment. This is how love is supposed to be right? Pure, Good and Mindful.
Moissanite is ethically grown, free of mining and mining conflict and won’t hurt the environment. This is how love is supposed to be right? Pure, Good and Mindful.
When She looks down at her ring, you want her to be able to reflect on the love and happiness that it brings. An ethically compromised engagement ring may take-away those precious feelings. It’s much better at the end of the day that you know exactly where your engagement ring came from so that you are not contributing to a cycle of violence, poverty, and human rights violations. All it takes is a little bit of research on your end to know for certain that your ring is conflict-free.
That is also why here at Lucce, we go beyond using Moissanite. We are proud to use gold that is ethically and responsibly sourced.

Some may assume that a conflict-free Moissanite engagement ring comes with an extra cost. It is actually the opposite. Because they are lab grown, there are no mining and conflict costs when it comes to Moissanite. Thus, You and your special someone would benefit from the more affordable price that Moissanite engagement rings have to offer. This is why Moissanite has become very popular in the US, Europe, and Australia, they are truly a smart purchase.
]]>Some may assume that a conflict-free Moissanite engagement ring comes with an extra cost. It is actually the opposite.
Moissanite is extremely rare in its natural form because it doesn’t grow on earth like other gemstones. This gemstone actually originate from meteorites in space and become recognized as Moissanite when it lands on Earth. Given the circumstance of this gem's origin, natural Moissanite is not available to be mined and astronomically expensive to source.
When the idea of engagement rings became popular around 1910, Diamond had enough natural supply in the mines around the world to meet the demands of the newly adopted proposal culture. Although gemologists and jewelers knew about Moissanites at the time, there wasn’t enough Moissanite supply for widespread commercialization. This was the case until the technology became available for producing Moissanite gemstones in labs.
In recent decades, advanced technology enabled chemists to produce mainstream gemstones in lab setting. These includes Diamonds, Sapphires, Emeralds, Rubies and Moissanites. Moissanites gained popularity as consumers appreciated its equivalent beauty, durability, and fair cost. Consumers and sometimes even jewelers, have difficulty telling Moissanites apart from its over-marketed counterpart due to its similar visual properties.
When lab created Moissanites became available on the market around 1980, jewelers had mutual interests to not mass release this gemstone into the market. Jewelers were aware of Moissanites but had all refused to sell or educate consumers on this gem since it would interfere with sales on highly profitable Diamonds. Moissanite has been the longest kept secret within the jewelry community and is a contributing cause to why most people only heard of this gemstone now. The information on these gems have been exposed in recent years and Moissanites are now the second most popular gemstone used in engagement rings.

We all know that not all diamonds are the same. Some are excellently cut and some are poorly cut. Some are perfectly colorless while some are really yellowish. It is the same for Moissanite. Not all Moissanite are the same!
So what is the difference between top branded and unbranded Moissanite? In this blog post, we will help you understand why it is only befitting that the love of your life receives either a Forever ONE or SUPERNOVA Moissanite:
Moissanite from Charles and Colvard come from the USA, while Moissanite from Moissanite International come from Australia. Other unbranded Moissanite do not disclose its place of origin. In addition, all Moissanite from Charles and Colvard and Moissanite International come with a certificate of authenticity and life time warranty. You will always be assured that you are getting the best quality Moissanite for your loved one, and you will always have peace of mind knowing that the stones have lifetime warranty. You should be proud by giving your partner nothing but the best!
The new-generation SUPERNOVA Moissanite are graded as true colorless (DEF), without the undesired blue colour tint found in other colorless Moissanite. It is also cut perfectly to maximise brilliance but reduces the "disco ball effect." This gives the SUPERNOVA the natural look that has warmth and soul. These gems also have VVS clarity which means even an experienced grader will have a hard time finding any inclusions with a 10x loupe. These stones are stunning and is coined the best jewel ever.
The Forever ONE Moissanite needs really no introduction. It is by Charles & Colvard, the company that started the Moissanite revolution around the world and Forever ONE is the epitome of the company's 20 years of research and innovation.
Unbranded Moissanite surely do not measure up to the beauty of these top Moissanite Brands. Although they are advertised as DEF, the true color of the unbranded stones is really below the DEF color range. Clarity is also an issue as it pales in comparison to SUPERNOVA or Forever ONE. We are really not sure of the kind of quality control these unbranded moissanites go through.
Charles & Colvard is the company that started the Moissanite revolution around the world and has more than 20 years research experience on Moissanite. After years of experimentation, certain researchers from their headquarters in Research Triangle Park in North Carolina developed and patented a process for pure silicon carbide (SiC).
Moissanite International also shares the same mission of bringing the best Moissanite for everyone to enjoy. They brought together a team of smart people – physicists, engineers, material scientists, PhD's in Silicon Carbide growth, skilled Moissanite cutters, Moissanite experts, and specialists - from around the world to accomplish this mission.
Charles and Colvard and Moissanite International take time to align all 8 sets of your Moissanites facets to perfect symmetry, perfect proportions, and perfect polish every time. Unlike with unbranded stones, you can be assured that your Moissanite went through the hands of experts and is perfect!
Because of the most advanced technology, Moissanite from Charles and Colvard and Moissanite International are the world's best. You can now give the best to the love of your life.
Last major difference is the price point. While unbranded Moissanite is more affordable than the top Moissanite brands we offer, you are unsure of its beauty, quality, and authenticity. SUPERNOVA and Forever ONE Moissanite will always have a higher price point than unbranded ones because of their beauty and heirloom quality.
Engagement rings are a symbol of ones love, please do not let price hinder you from giving the best to your partner. She will wear her engagement ring for a very long time, make sure that it is beautiful and heirloom quality. The last thing that you want to give is a ring the she is not proud of and she does not enjoy.

A Lab Diamond is a diamond grown in a laboratory environment. It has the same physical and chemical properties as a natural diamond but created more ethically thanks to technology. It is known for its famous brilliance and sparkle and comes in a range of expertly-cut shapes showcasing each and every stunning facet. It's a more eco-conscious choice thanks to its lower carbon footprint than its natural counterpart.

Charles and Colvard's Forever ONE is perfected with a decades-old process to create The World's Most Brilliant Gem. A gemstone's cut is one of its most important characteristics—it affects the brilliance and sparkle you see when your Moissanite catches the light. The cut can entirely change the way a ring looks on someone’s hand. The big question now is, what is the difference between the Hearts & Arrows and Round Brilliant cut?
Forever ONE is known to rival a diamond's sparkle, and the Hearts & Arrows Cut takes this beauty one step further.
Hearts & Arrows is a marker of a well-cut Moissanite and a look we are all very familiar with. Eight symmetrical hearts and arrows are on either side of the gem as a testament to the precision accompanying this romantic cut. After all, love is perfect symmetry, and the Hearts & Arrows Cut showcases it perfectly.

Another popular choice for engagement rings, the Round Brilliant is made to maximize Moissanite's brilliance and unique fire. It has a more modern look than the Hearts & Arrows line—an excellent choice for the contemporary woman who enjoys maximum sparkle in her forever piece.

Australian brand Moissanite International developed SUPERNOVA, also known as the Stellar Cut, to maximize the brilliance of Moissanite but with less double refraction or "disco ball effect." When viewed with the naked eye through the crown above, it looks similar to a Hearts & Arrows Cut—almost like a great marriage between Charles & Colvard Hearts & Arrows and Round Brilliant. It features optimal sparkle with a more diamond-like faceting pattern.

"The phrase “diamonds are a girl’s best friend” is losing ground as more women gravitate towards a better gemstone: Moissanite. Jewellers reveal that sales for moissanite engagement rings have surpassed that of diamonds – and for good reasons. We break down the reasons for why moissanite is the better choice for brides.
India was the only source of diamonds in the 1700’s. Today, diamonds can be found in multiple mining sites across the globe. This leads us to a sobering conclusion: diamonds are not rare.
The reason why diamonds are “rare” is that De Beers controls most of the mining sites around the world. De Beers is also known for buying out mines and co-opting or intimidating any that resist them. The diamonds are then transferred to the Central Selling Organization (CSO), which is also owned by De Beers. They monopolize the distribution to sellers worldwide, therefore having the upper hand in fixing prices by controlling production.
“Diamonds are not an investment—they are a retail product like any other," Ira Weissman wrote for the Huffington Post.
The belief that diamonds appreciate over time is a myth. In fact, you lose 50% of your diamond’s resale value the moment you walk out of the store. Since prices are jacked up due to diamond monopoly, reselling them would mean getting them at actual price. Diamonds only cost around 20% – 40% of their retail price which makes them less than ideal to invest in.
Some mining areas are located in the middle of a war zone. Locals mine the diamonds and sell them to fund weaponry and other tactical needs for militant groups. Because of these occurrences, some diamonds have earned the name blood diamonds or conflict diamonds.
The industry claims that majority of blood diamond mining has stopped today. However, there is no sufficient evidence for this since such places – most of which are in Africa – are conflict areas that cannot be freely reached.
On the lighter side of things, moissanite is available in most of the cuts that have made diamond rings popular. You can get the same sparkle (sometimes more) from cuts such as princess, heart, and even asscher.
Some brides go larger on their moissanite rings since the stone only costs a fraction of what diamonds cost. Some brides prefer the humbler sized stones for their moissanite wedding bands so as not to make the gems too obvious.
Engagements are only the beginning of a couple’s expenses. Apart from spending a much bigger sum for the wedding, the couple is likely to start a family soon after the vows are exchanged. Brides who opt for moissanite rings are usually given a bigger headstart than those who go for diamonds – not just for their family but for their retirement plans as well."
These are only some of the compelling reasons for a bride to choose moissanite over diamonds. You may go directly to www.luccerings.com to learn more about moissanite. If you can get the same fire, hardness and clarity without conflict at a fraction of the cost, choosing moissanite over diamonds is a no-brainer.

Minnesota-based newlywed Tori Okoye—who’s in her mid-20s—explained to us that she and her partner chose moissanite for her engagement ring for a variety of reasons, including the fact that it’s eco-friendly, conflict-free, and a fraction of the price of a standard diamond yet still has the same aesthetic qualities of the shiny stone.
“I love telling my friends about moissanite,” Okoye said. “I’m very pleased with it, [and] I think it’s much more normal to [choose] things that aren’t diamonds now.”"

]]>While diamonds have had almost a complete monopoly on engagement rings, they aren't the only option. Did you know that you could also buy moissanite engagement rings? Diamond alternatives may have gotten a bad rap, but moissanite actually has many benefits over diamonds!
Here are the 5 reasons why you should buy a moissanite engagement ring for your special someone:
Price plays a huge role in any large purchase we make in our lives, and engagement rings are no different.
However, with diamonds being much more common than we believe, many think that they are extremely overpriced.
So why are they so expensive? Well, thanks to some smart advertising from a diamond company called De Beers, diamonds became the symbol of love and a must-have when asking for a woman's hand in marriage.
It isn't smart to spend $5,000-$10,000 for 1 carat diamond ring. Did you know that a 1 carat moissanite engagement ring will only cost you around $1000 (approx, Php 50,000).
This is ideal for those who are looking to put that extra money into a wedding, honeymoon, or new house. After all, that money you'd save by opting to buy a moissanite engagement ring can go a long way!
Price isn't the only benefit! Many moissanite reviews actually claim that they sparkle more than diamonds, and this is already proven to be true.
Let's first talk about what makes a ring sparkle. A stone's brilliance is used to describe how well it reflects white light. The more light it can reflect, the more it will sparkle. So, who rates higher on the brilliance refractive scale: moissanite vs diamond?
Diamonds sit right around 2.42 while moissanite hit 2.65. While this may not seem like a huge difference, you'll be sure to notice it as her ring sparkles in even the dimmest rooms!
One of the biggest benefits of getting a diamond engagement ring is that diamonds are very durable. Engagement rings will inevitably take quite a hit over the years just from everyday life. Diamonds are strong enough to withstand this wear-and-tear, and they likely will not chip or scratch.
Moissanite also has this same quality. They have been proven to withstand the same daily wear-and-tear.
When you buy moissanite, you can feel confident that it will stay just as clear and unharmed as the day you bought it for the rest of your life.
One of the biggest hurdles you'll have to overcome when choosing the right engagement ring is picking all the right details. There are so many options you'll have to choose from, including shape, set, and metal.
While all your options may seem a bit overwhelming, it's important to choose the right ring to match your soon-to-be fiancee. That's why we think it's a good thing that you'll have just as many options if you buy moissanite.
That's right, moissanite can be cut into all the same shapes a diamond can, including round, princess, and cushion. You can also choose your moissanite setting and the metal used the create the band to ensure that your special someone has a ring that truly matches her personality.
Compared to mining diamonds, the Moissanite growing process has very little impact on the environment. As such it is eco-friendly, conflict free and guranteed to be ethically-sourced.
You can be sure that the symbol of your love is free of conflict and did not harm anyone and the environment!
When you think of engagement rings, your mind may automatically shoot to diamonds. But, that doesn't have to be your only option. With the high price of diamonds, some people have chosen to go for a diamond alternative.
However, moissanite proves to be the best diamond alternative (some would say it's better than an actual diamond). It's a smart purchase and more sparkly than a diamond. Plus, it's durable, looks like a top quality diamond, conflict-free, environment friendly and you get all the same options regarding cut, set, and metal!
This is why you should choose to buy moissanite for your engagement ring.
]]>"My fiancé and I can afford a diamond and yet we are choosing moissanite for our engagement ring. Moissanite is a choice. It's not settling at all. In my mind, everyone choosing a diamond is settling by not questioning the propaganda that has pressured them for years into thinking that a diamond is what they “deserve.”
Moissanite is a choice. It's not settling at all
Absolutely not. My ring is gorgeous and I get compliments on it all the time. Some people have pointed out how sparkly it is, which they then attribute to the cut. I know the stone looks extra sparkly because it’s moissanite and not a diamond!
Plus, my fiancé picked out the ring himself. It is so special to me that he spent the time choosing the ring and that it was a complete surprise. I had no idea that he was going to propose that night and I absolutely loved the ring he picked out!
We know we’re not alone... Sales for moissanite are up year over year. It seems that more and more couples are making the decision to choose an alternative stone. This is definitely one of the better (and conflict-free) ways to spend money."
]]>Moissanite or Diamond? Which is better for fine jewellery? Which holds the title of most beautiful jewel in the world? These are the questions that people usually ask us. In fact, you might be also reading this because you are doing your research on which is better and you want answers! So here is the deal, I will only declare geological facts and we will do the scoring objectively.
For starters, what makes a jewel beautiful and last forever? The beauty of a jewel is determined by its brilliance, fire and lustre. While it’s longevity is determined by it’s durability and hardness. These two over-arching characteristics of beauty and longevity actually determines the ranking of a gemstone for the sought-after title of best jewel in the world!
They look alike because they both have carbon in their chemical composition. Diamond is pure carbon while Moissanite is from a rare mineral known as Silicon Carbide. They are similar looking but are scientifically and chemically different from each other.
But why are we comparing Moissanite and Diamond? Because they somehow look alike! They look alike because they both have carbon in their chemical composition. Diamond is pure carbon while Moissanite is from a rare mineral known as Silicon Carbide. They are similar looking but are scientifically and chemically different from each other. So let us start with our head to head battle:
1. BRILLIANCE REFRACTIVE INDEX is the jewel's ability to capture and reflect light. The higher the refractive index, the higher the brilliance of the jewel. Moissanite has a refractive index of 2.65, outperforming all other jewels. Diamond only has a refractive index of 2.42.
2. FIRE is the dispersion or spectral separation of white light into rainbow flashes. The more dispersion a jewel has, the more delightful color effects it will display. Moissanite has 2.5 times the fire of a Diamond.
3. LUSTRE or scintillation is the flashes of light or shine you see when a jewel moves in the light. Moissanite's lustre rating of 20.4% is greater than a diamond's rating of 17.2%.
4. DURABILITY The durability of a jewel is determined by its ability to withstand temperature and chemical exposure. Actually, Moissanite and Diamond are the only gemstones that can pass the thermal test. However, Moissanite has higher heat tolerance than diamonds making damage from heat during jewelry manufacturing and repair very unlikely.
5. HARDNESS. Moissanite's hardness is 9 ¼ on the Mohs scale. This rating of hardness makes scratching and abrasions very rare, even after many years of daily wear. Diamonds have higher hardness than Moissanite with a value of 10 on the Mohs scale.
Based on the 5 categories, Moissanite hands down wins as the better jewel compared to Diamond. But wait, we have a bonus round!
6. ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLINESS. Compared to mining diamonds, the Moissanite growing process has very little impact on the environment. As such it is eco-friendly, conflict free and guranteed to be ethically-sourced.
So there you have it! The clear winner of this head-to-head battle is Moissanite. I am certainly convinced that Moissanite is the better jewel. Not only it is absolutely beautiful, it is also eco-friendly! I don’t see any other jewel that can rival with it. :)
Moissanite has unrivalled brilliance, fire and lustre - qualities that define the beauty of a jewel. Whilst retaining these virtues, the new generation SUPERNOVA Moissanite is a Super Premium jewel without the undesired blue colour tint found in other colourless Moissanite.
1. MAXIMUM BRILLIANCE
Women are all about brilliance and sparkle! SUPERNOVA Moissanite has more brilliance than any other gem in the world. This means more sparkle and way better brilliance than diamonds!
2. REDUCED FIRE
SUPERNOVA has a perfect cut to reduce double-refraction, or the "disco-ball" effect, giving it a brilliant and natural look.
3. MORE DURABILITY
SUPERNOVA Moissanite can withstand temperatures high enough to turn a diamond to dust! It is extremely resistant to scratching, chipping, and breaking, and therefore is an ideal choice for engagement rings and every day fine jewellery essentials.
4. MORE CLARITY
SUPERNOVA is cut to perfection and is considered eye-clean, or in other words flawless to the naked eye. All of our SUPERNOVA Moissanite that successfully pass the rigorous inspection process of Moissanite International offer the highest clarity possible.
5. LESS COLOR
SUPERNOVA Moissanite is a truly colorless gem rated in the D-E-F color range. However, it does not look artificial like other moissanites and it maintains its natural colorless color. This is why SUPERNOVA is considered a colorless jewel but with a soul.
6. MORE VALUE
With SUPERNOVA you get far more beauty, for far less as compared to similar gemstones. This unique gem offers superior optical properties to other colorless gemstones like diamonds, at modest prices. We here at Lucce have different payment options to help you with your purchase.
7. ZERO CONFLICT
Moissanite itself, although found in nature, must be grown in a laboratory as it is too rare to mine. Lab-created gemstones eliminate the issues associated with overseas mining operations, including child labor and war funding. SUPERNOVA Moissanite is exclusively grown by Moissanite International in Australia, and their state of the art facility operates under the most stringent guidelines.
8. ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY
The sheer size and harsh means of extracting gemstones from beneath the earth’s surface is enough to make you wonder – how could this possibly not damage the environment? Gemstone mining operations have been scientifically shown to cause irreversible damage to the environment when they fail to follow regulations set forth by our governments. Choosing lab-created moissanite reduces the reliance on mining, and supports a small facility that sources its metals and jewelry settings from the most responsible of vendors.
9. MADE AND QUALITY CONTROLLED IN AUSTRALIA
SUPERNOVA Moissanite is cut and quality controlled by Moissanite International in Australia. They have one of the most advanced facilities in the world that is dedicated on purely producing Silicon Carbide materials.
10. A BEAUTIFUL STORY
A trace amount of silicon carbide travels from outer space, forming into tiny crystals along its way, and lands upon the earth’s surface. With its miraculous discovery in the 1800s, and over a century of failed attempts to recreate its beauty, the world lay in wait for the first moissanite gemstone. Now, a gem that almost seems too good to be true has reached the fingertips of thousands. And as you search for your dream you have chosen a gem whose grandeur you can touch, but whose intrinsic beauty stands for so much more.
A number of our dear customers have asked us to enlighten them about Moissanite. One of the common questions they ask “is a Moissanite a fake diamond or a simulated diamond?” Well the answer to this is NO! And here’s why…
Moissanite is a rare, naturally occurring mineral also known as silicon carbide, which was first discovered by the Nobel Prize-winning chemist Dr. Henri Moissan at the site of a massive meteorite strike in Arizona. You heard that right! Moissanite came from the stars.
No. Moissanite is not a substitute for diamond, either scientifically or chemically. Moissanite is a UNIQUE gem with its own set of chemical and optical properties that exhibit more fire and brilliance than any other gemstone.
Let’s get this straight, moissanite is completely different from a diamond. Yes, it looks like a diamond. It feels like a diamond. Its thermal qualities are difficult to distinguish from those of a diamond. But best of all, a moissanite actually out-performs a diamond in terms of optics, and is still durable and scratch resistant enough to be worn every day and last a lifetime!
Moissanite doesn't try and simulate a diamond, it surpasses it in many important ways including brilliance, fire, lustre, toughness, resistance to heat, without even mentioning the obvious: price. However, not all Moissanites are the same! To learn more about Moissanite FAQs click here. And to compare Moissanite and Diamond in a head to head battle click here.
In mid-2004, my father had given a lovely pair of earrings to my mother on a recent overseas trip. Mom looked beautiful with her new dazzling earrings. I thought they were diamond. Then I found out that in fact they were a totally new jewel called Moissanite. I was fascinated.
Dad, being an engineer was very excited to tell me that the jewels were formed in a lab using Silicon Carbide, a natural mineral compound which is so similar to carbon found in diamond. “Lauren, it has more sparkle and lasts forever just like a diamond!” Dad exclaimed. “Wow! That’s incredible”. I thought. The timing for this discovery was perfect. Immediately, I knew I wanted a pair of earrings for my wedding day that was coming up in November of the same year. I had already been searching to buy the perfect pair of earrings to wear on my wedding day. In my search, I found sizeable diamond earrings to be quite expensive and then cubic zirconia earrings to be more like disposable costume jewellery.
“I WANTED A PIECE OF FINE JEWELLERY, I COULD PASS DOWN TO MY CHILDREN, BUT I DIDN’T WANT TO BREAK THE BANK. MOISSANITE WAS THE PERFECT SOLUTION”
We were saving to buy our first house. Moissanite was the perfect solution. I began my search in my hometown of Sydney, Australia to find some Moissanite earrings to wear on my special day. I was surprised when I couldn’t find any.
I broadened my search in Australia, yet still with no luck. It was at that time, that my sister Alana and I, decided that we should sell Moissanite in Australia. With the help of our parents, we started a Moissanite retail business and introduced it to Australia.
I still wear the Moissanite earrings I wore on my wedding day. I rarely take them out. I swim in the ocean with them. I wear them to work. I wear them to parties. I wear them when I drop my daughters to school. I sleep in them. I wear them when I work out. I wear them on date night. I love them today just as much as I did then. They were honestly the best fashion purchase I have made. If I work out how much those earrings have cost me each day I have worn them, it’s barely anything. They make any outfit look that much better and most importantly I feel good when I wear them.
I was proposed to with a diamond ring. My Moissanite earrings complimented my diamond ring. About four years ago I took off my ring in the bathroom and dropped it onto a ceramic vanity and tiled floor. My diamond broke! “What?! I didn’t know diamonds break” I hear you ask. Yes, diamonds can break, no jewel is indestructible. I was so upset, not because of the material value but because it was so sentimental to me. My husband came home and asked why I had been crying. I showed him my broken diamond. “Why are you so upset? You’re a jeweller! Don’t worry. Do you want to replace it with Moissanite or Diamond?” I chose a bigger Moissanite, because I love it and after wearing my earrings for many years I knew Moissanite would last no matter what. I am so happy with my Moissanite engagement ring. I enjoy seeing it sparkle, especially in the sun, and it's just as pretty in other lighting too.
I am proud to wear Moissanite knowing it’s an ethical jewel. And I love that Moissanite is new and exciting. When someone notices my ring, sometimes they ask, “Is it real”? “Of course it’s real” I smile, “It’s real Moissanite”. Over the years I’ve added to my Moissanite collection marking different milestones and celebrations. I love Moissanite and I hope you will get to discover the joy of Moissanite too"
This is the incredible story of Lauren Chang Sommer, co-founder of Moissanite International – producers of SUPERNOVA Moissanite. Just like her, you can now also discover the joy of the most beautiful jewel in the world. :)

With ongoing research and development, we should be seeing coloured Moissanite in the near future, giving even more options!
I can go on and on with my list of reasons why Moissanite is such a unique and unrivaled gemstone. But of course, don’t just take my word for it! I am confident that as you do your own research you will be convinced as much as I am. Many skeptics have turned to believers like me and more and more people are choosing Moissanite over any other gemstone for their fine jewellery. Indeed, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and SUPERNOVA Moissanite is the most beautiful jewel in the world! :)
What makes Moissanite the queen of all gemstones? Here are 7 remarkable facts that you need to know about the most beautiful jewel in the world!
Stones are measured by hardness because the harder they are, the more difficult they are to scratch. Moissanite loose stones have a rating of 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale.
There you have it! Remember these facts when purchasing a gemstone. I believe that Moissanite is now the standard of all jewels. How can it not be? These remarkable facts convinced me that Moissanite is indeed the most beautiful jewel in the world. :)
Lucce in partnership with Moissanite International is able to create moissanites in a lab to deliver you an artfully crafted, socially responsible and eternally brilliant jewel. Moissanite International, an Australian based company, is one of the world's best in Moissanite research and development. The result? The world's most beautiful jewel - SUPERNOVA Moissanite.
The SUPERNOVA Moissanite has a natural colour, displaying the highest brilliance, superior fire, and unmatched scintillation than any other jewel. It is free of mining conflict and won’t hurt the environment. Due to its rarity and unrivaled beauty, a moissanite is expected to increase its value over time. These qualities make it the best choice for a gemstone.
What makes SUPERNOVA Moissanite so special? The skill to which a Moissanite is cut determines how well it reflects and refracts light. Moissanite outperforms diamonds in brilliance, fire and lustre only if they are cut the right way. That is why we take time to align all 8 sets of facets to perfect symmetry, perfect proportions, and perfect polish every time. When this is achieved, the result is a stunning Moissanite jewel full of life and fire, that shows off its best qualities of maximum brilliance, fire and luster.

]]>Lucce is proud to only craft ethically sourced and socially responsible engagement rings and fine jewelry. We use moissanite and conflict-free gold.
1. Moissanite is the world’s most brilliant gem and will last forever. It came from a very rare and scarce mineral born from the stars that was originally discovered in 1893 in a meteor crater. It tops diamond in terms of the brilliance refraction index and fire dispersion. You know that coveted enchanting sparkle when exposed to light? Moissanites beats all of the gemstones in the world! This is why moissanites have gained popularity in the US, Europe and Australia as the “brilliant” choice for center stones of engagement rings.
2. Moissanite is so rare that it needs to be grown in a lab so that more people can enjoy its brilliance and sparkle in the form of fine jewellery. Our partners, Moissanite International (Australia) and Charles and Colvard (USA) are able to grow Moissanite in a lab to deliver you an artfully crafted, socially responsible and eternally brilliant jewel. As such, it is ethically grown, free of mining and won’t hurt the environment.
3. Our gold is conflict-free. Here at Lucce, we go beyond using Moissanite. We are proud to use gold that is ethically and responsibly sourced. Traditional and Dirty gold mining has a history of civil war, labor abuses, and environmental devastation. It is one of the most destructive types of mining and millions of gold miners earn low wages in dangerous working conditions. Choosing our gold decreases conflict, the use of fossil fuels, deforestation and catastrophic health threats to the local mining communities.
We believe that our rings will help create new standards within the fine jewelry industry that will ultimately lessen conflict mining. Especially now, more and more peole are becoming eco-sensitive and socially responsible. No wonder our customers love these rings!
Choose an ethical, environment friendly and socially responsible engagement ring to be the symbol of your love. I am certain that your partner will also love what her engagement ring stands for. Make the “brilliant” choice now.
